Lee Child - Jack Reacher novels

I read in my local paper this week that Lee Child's Jack Reacher novel One Shot is being made into a movie.  And that Tom Cruise is going to play Jack Reacher.  Who is the world came up with that idea?!?  Diehard fans of Child's books are probably having as hard a time picturing Cruise playing Reacher as I am.  Picture Cruise (who as we know is a bit of a shrimp....I should know....I'm one too!) playing a man Child describes as 6 foot 5 and over 200 pounds.  Talk about screwed up casting.....
